"Capitol Hill Tower" is actually two projects: a 200-room Courtyard by Marriott, which runs along the southern side of the building, and Capitol Hill Tower, a 340-unit coop building which takes up the rest of the block.

The southeast corner. The east side of the lot faces 2nd Street, and the future Washington Canal Park as well as the western edge of Capper/Carrollsburg. The lighter-shaded tower on the left is the Courtyard tower, and the darker-brick section on the right is the residential complex. Note the "Courtyard by Marriott" sign now on the southern tower. For a long time, the Star Market was the only building on the entire lot, and held its ground for months after construction began. (02/04)

But in November 2004 the market gave up, and went up for sale; before long, it was surrounded. In March 2006, it got a fresh coat of paint from the Marriott folks, and briefly showed up for sale on Craigslist, but the owners then decided to open a Class A wine and spirits store on the site, and may in fact demolish the building and rebuild.
