Boilermaker Shops Interiors / Photo Gallery
September 6, 2012
Checking out the build-out on a rainy day of the Boilermaker Shops, a World War I-era industrial building being converted into a retail space at The Yards. For more information about the Boilermaker building, including "before" photos, see my project page.
What a beautiful day to be taking pictures! Looking at the Boilermaker's entrances and patios along Tingey Street. The Bluejacket Brewery's entrance is at right, with Buzz Bakery immediately to the left. (link)
The building's eastern end, facing 4th Street, SE. This is where Bluejacket will be. The US Department of Transportation headquarters looms to the right. (link)
A straight-on view of the Bluejacket entrance, seen through raindrops, and also showing the windows above the space. (link)
Inside the Bluejacket space, looking east toward 4th Street and the Navy Yard. (link)
A view upward toward the roof in Bluejacket, where the lights are on. You can also see the glass that separates the office space on the upper level from the brewery below. (link)
Can't stop taking photos of the wall of glass on the building's east end, this time with the smoke stacks of the Navy Yard visible to the southeast. (link)
Buzz Bakery will be in the same space as Bluejacket, with its own smaller entrance seen at right. (link)
One of the awnings on the building's south side. This is the entrance to Willie's Brew and Que, on the building's west end at 3rd Street. (link)
The exterior of Willie's space on 3rd Street, just north of Potbelly. (link)
A very dusty view of the Willie's interior, with the lights on up in the roof. (link)
The reverse view of Willie's, toward the Southwest. Perhaps if the weather outside were nicer, you'd see a hint of Nationals Park through the glass at far right. (link)
Turning a smidge to the left to get the rest of the Willie's space, with the Foundry Lofts seen across the street. (link)
Because everyone wants to see a loading dock. (link)
The prepped space that was to be Huey's 24-7 Diner. This is looking toward the back. (link)
The entrance and windows of the former Huey's space. (link)
The space that will be Wells Dry Cleaners, directly across from the leasing office of the Foundry Lofts. (link)
A wall of windows in one of the not-yet-leased spaces. (link)
Another wall of windows, with a more industrial feel, in an unleased space. (link)
The original plans for more shops on the second level of the Boilermaker Shops have been changed, and now there is fully leased office space being built out, seen here, looking west. (link)
Looking east in the office space, toward the interior windows that are seen from Bluejacket. And of course there's the Shaw 15 Ton Crane, which unfortunately will only be seen by people who get to come into the office space. (link)
For the heck of it, a photo I took of the Shaw back in 2007. (link)
And, another 2007 view of the Boilermaker building, when it was a wide, industrial, empty structure. (link)
Meanwhile, across the street, digging is pretty much completed for the Twelve12 4th Street apartment building, where Harris Teeter and As-Yet-Unnamed Fitness Center will be arriving in 2014. Work on piles should begin soon. (link)
