70 I (left) and 100 I (right) are two rental buildings by JPI, on I Street SE between Half and First (seen here from a rooftop two blocks to the south). 70 I, now dubbed "Jefferson at Capitol Yards", has a "warehouse and industrial theme" design, while its sibling 100 I ("Axiom") has a more modern design. Both have rooftop pools, fitness centers, a "resident pub", and concierge service. 70 I started move-ins in June 2008, with 100 I following the next month.
If you want to view more before-and-after photos of 70/100 I from additional locations,
see the Expanded Project Archive.
A ground-level view of the two buildings, taken on First Street south of I. 70 I is on the left, 100 I on the right.
The "opposite" view of 70 and 100 I Street, as seen from I Street not far east of South Capitol.
Looking at the north side of I Street east of Half Street, in August 2005, when a trash transfer company still occupied the site. (08/05)
Basically the same spot, open for business. (6/21/08)
The north side of I Street, just east of Half Street, in Sept. 2006, after the site had been demolished and not long before the start of construction. (09/06)
November 3, 2019 - The same location. The garage at left was demolished in August 2007, as 70 I began to tower over it.
70 and 100 I now sit at the "head of the table" in the area of Near Southeast north of M Street. (5/6/08)
A grainy shot from the Southeast Freeway in Sept. 2000. (09/00)
The same location, nearly eight years later, with 70/100 I now dominating the view from the freeway, and obscuring the view of many of the other new buildings that have risen in Near Southeast. (The residential project
Onyx on First is the construction at right-center, itself now nearly obscured by the
Velocity condo building.)
Looking onto I Street from 1st Street, in August 2005. (08/05)
December 29, 2008 -The same location, with 100 I just a few weeks behind its sibling.
The view down I Street from New Jersey Avenue, in August 2005. (08/05)
January 12, 2020 -The same location, under construction, with 70/100 I remaking the horizon at rear center. And the Nexus is gone, to make way for JPI's
909 New Jersey Avenue.
A hard-to-get shot of the 100 I Street lot (in the foreground) as seen from the Southeast Freeway, a few months before demolition began. The land from the freeway to the chain-link fence in the foreground, and to the left of the fence at the left side of the photo, is owned by CSX Rail. (02/06)
Roughly the same spot, with the buildings topped out. Apartments with great freeway views! (3/15/08)
My oldest photo of the 70 I site--this is the north side of I Street, just east of Half, in August 2004. (08/04)
Another view of the property when it was still a trash transfer company, in December 2004. (12/04)
