Some quick shots from today of the other projects underway at the Yards, in case a new dry cleaners just isn't exciting enough for you.
The new exterior glass is now almost completely on the Lumber Shed at the Yards Park, where Osteria Morini and Agua 301 are slated to be tenants when it opens later this year (along with Forest City Washington on the second floor):

Meanwhile, over at the Twelve12 apartment building project on 4th Street (more popularly known as the Harris Teeter/Vida Fitness building), the progress isn't quite as showy, unless you're a construction nerd and you know what the arrival of a tower crane means:
Yes, it means that vertical construction is not far off. The building is expected to be completed in 2014. And in case you want one more shot of the hole in the ground:

Is the entire top floor of the Shed going to be offices? It seems like a golden opportunity for the restaurants on the ground floor, at least the ones facing the water, to have a second floor seating area that overlooks the park and river. Way too valuable a view to be wasted on office space, IMO

As of now, Forest City has temporary rights to be on the second floor, but if they can lease 2nd floor space for retail, they have the flexibility to do so. They had a hard time getting any interest in the second floor spaces, though, which was why they decided to move their offices there--it got the building's leased space to a high-enough level to get construction financing. If FCW hadn't made that move, who knows whether the building would be underway yet.

I seriously don't know why it took over a year to excavate Twelve12. Did they find another unexploded ordnance or it is finance problem? Even the mega downtown CityCenter construction didn't take over a year to excavate it.

Well, it's not like they're not going to move in. They now have to spend money to move their offices, etc. etc. Not exactly sleight-of-hand. But the leases just weren't moving. After all, there's still only two (other than FCW), and the building has been leasing for a long while now.

We've talked about it in other threads. There's no opening date--there had been hope that maybe with Xavier having finally finished the build out of the Hawk n Dove that he'd be able to turn his attentions to the Park Tavern (and to Willie's at the Boilermaker), but at this point there's been no announcement. And this is definitely one that I won't believe any "almosts" until the doors are open.

RE: Park Tavern, I ran by it late last week and saw someone in chef-like garb in their kitchen. So maybe they're at least in the menu creation stage?

I am especially interested to try Park Tavern. I can easily see this becoming my favorite place to go. Before games or during the week! Maybe Bluejacket before games too!

A couple new building permits have been approved over the past week at 202 M (the Canal Park/Park Tavern address), so maybe there is movement.

re: Park Tavern -- walking by yesterday morning, some gentleman were delivering a large amount of firewood, presumably for the wood-fired oven. I asked them about an opening date and they said "we think within a week." Not sure how much actual knowledge or connection they had, but for what it's worth. I can't wait to see that place open.
